The Great Cosplay Journal~1

Hey all! I realise I haven't updated it a while, but here is my update and hopefully it will help people in the future.

I'm new to cosplaying. I've always wanted to, but I never have. That is until now and to ensure that you don't run into the same problems that I have/will I'm posting a journal collection of my process. :D

:bulletblue:Choosing a Fandom/Character::bulletblue:
This was the easiest part for me. On the weekend I'd randomly decided that it would be awesome if my friends and I did a group cosplay. Come Monday and my friends are saying the exact same thing AND for the same fandom. In an instant we'd decided upon the Ouran boys. (There's only the three of us, so one of us is going as Tamaki, the other Mori and I'm going as Kyouya which is completely ironic XD)

:bulletblue:Acquiring an Appropriate Pattern::bulletblue:
Here, we were rather lucky. We all searched the net for jacket patterns; the only part of the costume we had to make.

After staring at screen caps and other cosplays for referance we had a pretty good idea of what we needed, and lucky for us Cosplay.com had a whole forum thread for it, as well as other miscellaneous cosplay advice.

Eventually we decided on this rev=1"pattern for three major reasons:

1. We're all female and sizing would be easy
2. It says it's quick and simple and
3. It's unlined which means less money spent on fabric and more on accessories.

Of course slight modifications are going to have to be made and I'll get to that in a later journal.

So, today I bought the pattern and the next thing we did was figure out everything else we need.

Luckily for us black shoes were not a problem. (lol. I'm going to be wearing my brother's shoes which give me an extra 3cm of height)For the white shirt and black pants we decided that we'd buy them from a men's department store or something. (Again I'm lucky that I can wear my brother's white shirt)

We're going to make the logos and ties ourselves and buy wigs and other accessories anywhere we can find them.

So that's our progress so far. I'll be posting regular updates on everything when I can.

Next "The Great Cosplay Journal~2"-Fabric.

Well. At the moment I'm the most organised one. I have half my costume already and found the perfect wig today! I'm buying the fabrics this Saturday (hopefully) so as soon as my exams are over I'll start sewing.

Wow, you really do seem organised. Sewing is fun, it's great to see a costume start to take shape :)

At the moment I'm working on a TenTen outfit, and it's turning out great (so far!) I'm making/sewing everything :D
