The Great Cosplay Journal~1

Hey all! I realise I haven't updated it a while, but here is my update and hopefully it will help people in the future.

I'm new to cosplaying. I've always wanted to, but I never have. That is until now and to ensure that you don't run into the same problems that I have/will I'm posting a journal collection of my process. :D

:bulletblue:Choosing a Fandom/Character::bulletblue:
This was the easiest part for me. On the weekend I'd randomly decided that it would be awesome if my friends and I did a group cosplay. Come Monday and my friends are saying the exact same thing AND for the same fandom. In an instant we'd decided upon the Ouran boys. (There's only the three of us, so one of us is going as Tamaki, the other Mori and I'm going as Kyouya which is completely ironic XD)

:bulletblue:Acquiring an Appropriate Pattern::bulletblue:
Here, we were rather lucky. We all searched the net for jacket patterns; the only part of the costume we had to make.

After staring at screen caps and other cosplays for referance we had a pretty good idea of what we needed, and lucky for us Cosplay.com had a whole forum thread for it, as well as other miscellaneous cosplay advice.

Eventually we decided on this rev=1"pattern for three major reasons:

1. We're all female and sizing would be easy
2. It says it's quick and simple and
3. It's unlined which means less money spent on fabric and more on accessories.

Of course slight modifications are going to have to be made and I'll get to that in a later journal.

So, today I bought the pattern and the next thing we did was figure out everything else we need.

Luckily for us black shoes were not a problem. (lol. I'm going to be wearing my brother's shoes which give me an extra 3cm of height)For the white shirt and black pants we decided that we'd buy them from a men's department store or something. (Again I'm lucky that I can wear my brother's white shirt)

We're going to make the logos and ties ourselves and buy wigs and other accessories anywhere we can find them.

So that's our progress so far. I'll be posting regular updates on everything when I can.

Holidays

As of today I am on a two week holiday from school. Usually I would be happy about this, but my teacher's decided that my life was not nearly as miserable as it should be and gave me a bunch of assignments to do.

On top of that, I didn't get my half-yearly report. GRRR. The teachers don't give me a report, but give me more work. That makes absolutely no sense.

I'd like to thank everyone who Roleplayed and chatted with me in the LxLight chatroom. That was so much fun; I don't think I've had a better time in any chatroom to date.

Moar updates on my current anime:

I started to watch Midori no Hibi. It's a very entertaining 13 episode anime. I really can't get enough of it.

I also have a few artworks planned for these holidays; mainly finishing requests, a competition and a thanks for 500 pageviews, which no one caught. Oh well, there's always next time (1000 page views).

Sweet Freedom

Thu Jun 5, 2008, 8:10 PM
I have been free of all exams for the last 3 hours!!!! My last exam was this morning and let me tell you the feeling of euphoria that washed over me when I walked out of the hall, our examination room, felt wonderful. And now my shoulder hurts and my hand is recovering from all those exams, especially English and English Extension.

But that's not all (oh, that sounded like one of those cheesy advertisements for the vaccuum cleaners) I have the next five days to spend doing whatever it is that I want. A three day long weekend and two more days for people who still have exams to do. How I am glad that I am not one of them!

The competition at The Bankai Brigade hasn't opened the voting yet or whatever it is they're planning on doing, so I have no idea if I'll place anything, but as it stands, I don't think there is much of a chance. If you don't believe me just go to their page and check out the competition.

Also, reminder that 500 hits/pageviews/whatever is coming very, very soon, so get your screencapture program ready and take the screencap. Send me a note with it and your request and I'll do my best to fulfill it.

Well, that's it from me until next time

Hi Everyone! *waves enthusiastically*

I hope everyone has been having a good time with whatever it is their doing, unlike me who has exams on Monday that they've hardly studied for. But enough on the woes of school...

I come bearing an entry to the comp over at The Bankai Brigade. I hope you all like it!

I don't really have too much more to say except that I'm getting very close to 500 pageviews (a milestone if I ever saw one) I'm thinking about doing a kiriban-take a screenshot if you're the lucky 500 and I'll do a sketch or something for you.

So, long time no see. I've been gone for ages, and I must say, I'm glad to be back! Also, sorry if I haven't commented on your latest deviations; I currently have over 550 to look at so it's going to take me some time to filter through them all.

I'd also like to thank :iconkirivolta: for featuring me in her journal a while back, so please visit her page and give her some love. She really deserves it. A shout out to :iconassailant17: who has commented on almost every single deviation I've uploaded to date. Thanks heaps!

Oh, and I should probably mention that I didn't end up entering that competition. I'd finished the drawing and was in the process of putting it all together(it was a comic type thing). Well, the end date for the comp came and I was at my friend's house that night, so I didn't post it. It was a real shame, but they have a comp. every month so there's always next time.

I got my first request too so I've been working on that. It's for two Naruto OC's. Contrary to what most people would think, I've only watched something like 12 random episodes of the anime and haven't even bothered with the manga.

I also started to watch Ouran High School Host Club and am absolutely loving it! There's only 26 episodes though, and I'm pretty sure the manga was only just released here. It's a shame that there is only one season.

And that's about all from me to date. I'm on holidays for 2 weeks at the moment and am absolutely loving it; school was really starting to bug me.
